Kahaberi & Khanums

Kahaberi (Kakhaber Tsiskaridze) is one of the most valuable and respected musicians (Drummer) on the Georgian music scene. His work covers numerous popular hits and successful musical projects in Georgia and internationally. Kahaberi & Khanums is his latest musical project. The debut album "Anidan>Haemde" aims to popularize Georgian folklore in a modern way. The idea to blend Georgian folk with contemporary music was born 20 years ago, when Kahaberi was studying jazz in Batumi, Georgia. The first experiment with the famous song "Gandagana" became so popular among the Georgian audience that it gave Kahaberi more confidence and assurance that the idea was valid and interesting for further development. After seven years of searching for the right sounds, the recording finally started in 2010. He auditioned numerous folk music performers and at the end... Three best female singers were selected based on artistic experience and background, as well as dance and vocal abilities. It was crucial to select three voices, as Georgian folk is predominantly performed in three-part harmony. For the past three years, the project has undergone a continuous development and improvement process, including choreography, performance, and costume design concepts. The name "Kahaberi & Khanums" also went through a selection process and research. "Khanuma" is a lady character from Old Tbilisi life, known as a fashionista who was well-informed about everyone and often arranged marriages among wealthy families. Additionally, "Khanuma" is a widely used word in Asia, meaning a high-ranking lady or simply "beautiful."
